ARCHITECTURE, SPACES OF INTERACTION AND EVERYDAY POWER

2018

Through this collaborative sculptural and performance project, Buttner attempted to change the way we perceive art, drawing our attention away from the art objects and directing us towards the action of their formation. Set within the modernist architecture at the Inchicore College of Further Education, working with a group of 2nd year dance students, the work engaged with the relationship of art to architecture, with spaces of interaction, and with everyday power.  Exploring the female body as object and subject, through sculpture, performance, film and critical thinking.

Providing the space in which the value of art, could be explored, was an integral part of this work. Special thanks to Donnchadh Clancy, Principal (ICFE), Marian Lennon, Course Director of Dance, Linda Higgins, Dance Tutor, the staff in ICFE, and all participants in the development and rehearsal process. Written, directed and edited by Susan Buttner. Videography: Gareth Stack. Movement devised in collaboration with performers: Saoirse Doyle, Danielle Gillick, Claire Greene, Rachel Holmes, Aoife Kane.
